The Medical Assistant program, developed in partnership with Core Physicians (part of Beth Israel Lahey Health) and Wentworth-Douglas Physician Corporation (part of Mass General Brigham), prepares graduates for immediate employment in a variety of healthcare settings. Students gain the skills needed to support physicians and healthcare teams by performing both administrative and clinical responsibilities required in medical office settings.
Program Overview
- 12-week certificate program
- 8-week classroom instruction (M-Th 9-5, F 8-4)
- 4-week clinical practicum in a medical office (40 hours/week)
- 320 hours of classroom instruction and hands-on lab training
- 16-hour practicum at local medical officers
- Taught by experienced healthcare professionals
- Students gain administrative and clinical medical assisting skills
- Designed to align with standards established under the Affordable Care Act
- Training focused on skills regional healthcare employers value
- Funding may be available for qualified candidates to help with tuition costs
Program Outcomes
NHA Certified Clinical Medical Assistant National Exam
Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination. GBCC MA students have had a 95-100% pass rate on the CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant) exam over the past 5 years.
Medical Assistant Certificate Digital Badge
Participants who successfully complete the Medical Assistant Program will automatically receive a digital badge micro-credential that verifies their accomplishment and documents their skills.Â
Clinical Hours Experience for Physician Assistant and Medical Degree Programs
Future PA and medical school applicants can use our 12-week Medical Assistant Program as a pathway to gain valuable clinical experience and patient-care hours.Â

- Age 18 & older
- Completed application

- High School Diploma, GED or HiSet
- Interview with medical assisting program team
- Prior to the 160-hour practicum- immunizations, health and drug screening and criminal background check will be required before you can attend practicum

- Employment of medical assistants is projected to grow 12% from 2024-2034
- The growth of the aging baby-boom population will continue to spur demand for preventative medical services which are often provided by physicians
- As their practices expand, physicians will hire more assistants to perform routine administrative and clinical duties allowing the physicians to see more patients
- In May 2024, the median annual wage for medical assistants in NH was $44,200
